Learn about Immunization
Immunization Works!
Immunization is one of the single most important public health triumphs of the 20th century.According to the World Health Organization (WHO), immunization saves three million lives each year, worldwide, but almost three million more lives, worldwide, are lost due to diseases that are preventable with existing vaccines.
In the developed world, immunization has been so successful that diseases such as polio, diphtheria, mumps and measles are rarely if ever seen, leading to some complacency about the further need to immunize.
But these diseases are only under control because of immunization, a decrease in immunization rates leads to outbreaks of disease.
Immunization is the exception in health services. The savings it creates from reduced medical care and fewer hospital admissions can offset its cost. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure... and more.
