New Canadians

New immigrants, refugees and internationally adopted children:
  • may be lacking adequate immunization
  • may not have immunity to diseases such as chickenpox
  • may not have a reliable immunization record.

The immigration medical examination (IME) does not routinely include a review of immunization status or serologic testing.

Health care providers are encouraged to assess and update immunization of people who are new to Canada.

People who are new to Canada are encouraged to contact their local public health office for immunization updates.
